Do I need to have previous massage experience?

No, we welcome anyone in our classes and we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

What’s involved in the DMA 2 day Whole Body Massage Weekend course?

Over 2 day’s in one weekend you’ll learn an entire thorough system to massage clients effectively for relaxation and therapeutic massage. It’s designed to lengthen and relax the muscles. We all know the importance of having a system to follow…Without a system it’s very hard to know right from wrong, or how things negatively or positively affect your desired massage result.

Do I need a HLT52015 Diploma in Remedial Massage to start massaging professionally?

No! The Massage Association of Australia (MAA) and the International Institute of Complementary Therapists (IICT) recognises our Certificate in Whole Body Massage course that’s held over just two days on one weekend – on the Monday morning you can apply for membership with the MAA, get your insurance and start earning an income.

How do I get insurance and start a business?

As soon as you’ve finished your DMA Certificate in Whole Body Massage you can apply for membership with the Massage Association of Australia (MAA) or the International Institute for Complimentary Therapists (IICT). Both these independent industry professional organisations will be able to provide Professional Indemnity Insurance, allowing you to begin earning an income.

Who attends our courses

We get a wide range of people attend our course. From people wanting to try massage to see if they like it or to massage their friends and family only, people who want to get into the industry and work professionally, Exercise Physiologists, Chiropractor students, Physio students, Personal Trainers, Reiki Practitioners or anyone wanting to add massage to their current business. Everyone is welcome!

Are your industry based courses approved throughout Australia?

Yes – Our courses are approved nationally by an Accredited Massage Industry Association, the Massage Association of Australia (MAA) and the International Institute for Complimentary Therapists (IICT) .Your course certificate will be approved all over Australia.

Do you have instructors in each state of Australia where you run your courses?

YES.

Where are your courses held?

Our courses are held in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Perth, Townsville and the Gold Coast.

Can I work overseas?

Yes – many of our students travel and work overseas. We’re an approved training provider for the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT) so once you’ve finished your course simply join as a member and purchase your Professional Indemnity Insurance through them. You’ll be able to work in over 39 countries if you choose, including NZ, USA, Canada, and much of Europe. Check out www.myiict.com for more details.

Do you help me set up a business?

We’ll help you get started in the industry but the massage system we teach is only part of the puzzle. We’ve also put together a bonus video for our students – “3 mistakes a new massage therapist makes that will keep their practice empty and how to avoid them” that will provide you with some helpful information.

Will I need to be massaged on?

The course is hands on in nature and as part of the learning experience we strongly recommend that our students take part in being massaged during the hands-on teaching. If for some reason you’re unable to be massaged on then please reach out to our trainers and we’ll work around your needs.

Why do the other schools say I have to sign up for 12 months?

Because they want you to pay for a 12 month course. We support and encourage students who want to upskill – we think it’s a worthwhile course that equips you for work in the industry, but we know that many massage therapists are excellent and have been working for years without any formal training. To work as a massage therapist in Australia, the minimum requirement you need to have completed is a course that’s recognised by an association (such as our Certificate in Whole Body Massage Weekend Course), then join the association that recognises the course you’ve done. In our case, you need to join the Massage Association of Australia (MAA) or the International Institute for Complimentary Therapists (IICT).

Why does DMA have a step by step pathway of learning rather than just doing it all in one course?

Over the past 22 years of running courses, we believe through our experience that it’s best to learn a thorough massage system that gives you the grounding to integrate further massage styles when you are ready. Once you have completed the DMA weekend Whole Body Massage Course we recommend that you practice, practice, and perfect our system. Then, when ready, upskill to either Deep Tissue Massage or other techniques that may interest you like “Hot stones” or pregnancy massage. By trying to jam 3-4 different styles in 2-3 days makes it extremely tough to retain what is being taught. You simply won’t become a great therapist. There is no rush. It has been proven that it’s best to learn in a step-by-step process. Learn and perfect your massage technique, then upskill by learning and perfecting another new technique, then upskill by learning and perfecting another new technique again and so forth. A massage career is a journey of learning, not a sprint to try to learn multiple styles in 3 days then forget it when you walk out the door. It doesn’t work like that no matter what the industry. Take your time and you will gain more knowledge and become a great therapist. That’s the difference between becoming JUST a massage therapist to becoming an AWESOME massage therapist that gets RESULTS and more business. As we all know, every massage style has so many sequences and if you want to perfect a style, then you need to practice, practice and practice before moving on.

Are your weekend courses recognised by the Health Funds?

No. To eligible for health fund provider numbers you need to complete the HLT52015 Diploma in Remedial massage.

This begins with our Whole body Massage Certificate course and operates all the way through our more advanced courses.
